FROM THE AUTHOR

In more than 30 years of dealing with faces every day in the fashion and beauty industry, I have seen that dry skin can have a drastic impact on the way skin visibly ages.

Over the years I have received countless letters from people around the world to say ‘thank you’ for the information about how to nourish their dry skin with chemical-free, DIY Treatment Prescriptives. The added benefit was that while their skin was discernibly healthier, in the process they also reduced fine lines and improved the texture and firmness of their skin.

Dry skin is an uncomfortable condition marked by scaling, itching, and cracking that can impact the whole body, or in many cases, become isolated to specific areas.

Dry skin is one of our most common skin issues and can affect people at any age in many different circumstances. Some people have naturally dry skin; others experience it seasonally; some find their skin becomes drier as they age; and others experience it as a result of medical treatments.

In recent times and years gone by I had also dealt with many people suffering from extreme skin dryness as a result of chemotherapy. In every case they found that the harshness of the treatments was prematurely aging their faces, while causing daily discomfort from the pain of living with dry and cracking skin all over their bodies.

Having worked with women initially in the Royal Women’s Hospital when writing my first book and in Cancer Wellness centres more recently, I have often been asked for DIY skincare recipes that can be made at home and could support them to counteract their extreme skin dryness.

With this in mind that I put together Skin Hacks for Super Dry Skin, a complete skincare guide specifically for anyone suffering from dry skin!

Our skin is our largest organ, designed to protect us from external environmental factors, but when skin is dry its protective barrier is weakened.

Ironically, many of the commercial products used on our faces actually strip the oil from our skin, leaving one of the largest organs of our body to repair itself.

That parched, tight, dry skin feel that you get after cleansing or toning has come to be associated with having ‘clean skin’, when in actual fact it is simply stripping the skin of its moisture barrier, making it harder and harder for the skin to repair itself.

Every time oil is stripped from our skin it overcompensates for the lack of moisture, which can cause other skin issues. And when the skin is no longer able to compensate – its starts drying and cracking, which leads to the development of fine lines and wrinkles.

When dealing with dry skin, I always recommend that people avoid putting anything on the skin that contains chemicals, alcohol and artificial fragrances.

This is why all of the GL skin treatment prescriptives are free from emulsifiers, preservatives, artificial fragrances, alcohol, mineral oils, silicones, dyes and amines. The treatments have no parabens or ingredients that contain chemicals or phyto – estrogen and are non carcinogenic. Every skin care formula only uses ingredients that are known to deeply hydrate, nourish, nurture and the skin.

Keep in mind that your skin absorbs whatever you put on it. When dealing with super sensitive dry skin, even very effective products like marine derived ingredients can cause irritation.

Anything that creates irritation, even essential oils and fragrances, can create rashes and break the fragile skin’s protective barrier.

The whole purpose is to ensure that the outer skin barrier is deeply hydrated.

So many products today are being touted as natural skin care, it is hard to know which ones are really natural. But when I say natural I mean getting it directly from Mother Nature!

The DIY Treatment Prescriptives will show you how to:

1.    Nourish skin

2.    Hydrate skin

3.    Revive dull skin

4.    Brighten skin

5.    Reduce skin pigmentation and sun spots

Without a doubt our faces say so much more about us than what we look like. They are a pure reflection of our health, vitality and spirit. Through my years of experience in the fashion industry I have come to believe that B.E.A.U.T.Y. is based on the principles of …

Balance, Enthusiasm, Acceptance, Understanding, Trust & You

I believe that:

B alance in our lives unfolds from the inside out.

E nthusiasm lies within the way we think and feel about ourselves.

A cceptance is the path to making peace with ourselves and others.

U nderstanding ourselves gives us clarity and wisdom to know what we want, and importantly, what we don’t.

T rust attunes our heart and mind so we can nurture spontaneity and adventure in our lives, and know that…

Y ou have what it takes to create the life and love you know you deserve and to never settle for anything less.

While Skin Hacks for Super Dry Skin will how you how to nurture your face and your body with great natural products that work, it is also about knowing that the beauty we find outside ourselves is a very small aspect of what lies within.

I have been fortunate enough to cross paths with people who have helped me understand this; each in their own way showing me that the essence of our beauty lies not in our physical characteristics alone, but in the heart of our character.

While I have seen supermodels in Paris dressed in Chanel and women in India dressed in rags, the one truth that reveals their beauty, regardless of who they are, is the truth of their smile.

So whether you are indulging in a skin rejuvenating bath or giving yourself a three-minute facial – Enjoy! After all, B.E.A.U.T.Y. is about good living and great loving, it is about feeling more, healing more, living more and loving more.
